On the shaded ball, I would like to see a more gradual transition between the light end the dark so just gradually keep lightening the “twilight zone” until you can’t see the line there anymore

That is a fabulously shaded ball. 
You can further improve is by softening the distant edge of the shadow. A shadow fades lighter as it recedes away from the object. So what you can do is use your kneaded eraser and gently tap over the right hand edge of the shadow. That will lighten that edge adding that last touch of realism to perfect your drawing.
