Class Description
Join me in this in-depth drawing class where we tackle a sailor pulling a wonderfully exaggerated expression – packed with wrinkles, textures, and character. Drawing Expressive Faces: Sailor is a 7-hour, step-by-step graphite portrait class designed for intermediate to advanced artists who want to push their realism and texture rendering to the next level.
You’ll learn how to capture expression without sacrificing realism, and how to build up believable facial detail using a refined, patient graphite process.
🎭 Expressive Foundations: Learn to map and exaggerate facial features while keeping proportions grounded in realism.
🧓 Wrinkles & Skin Texture: Master the art of drawing aged skin, folds, and facial compression with nuance and subtlety.
👁️ Realistic Eyes: Explore how to handle asymmetry and expression in the eyes without breaking the overall likeness.
🧔 Beard & Moustache Techniques: Build realistic facial hair using value layering, directional strokes, and hard/soft edge control.
👕 Clothing & Fabric: Learn to render textured cloth and a striped sailor’s hat, including curved pattern wrapping and value control.
🔲Contrast & Clarity: Balance darks, lights, and midtones across a high-contrast portrait for a clean, professional finish.
🧠 Real-Time Strategy: Understand not just how but why each shading, blending, and erasing decision is made.
The Class Includes:
🕖 7 Hours of Real-Time Drawing Instruction: Fully narrated and explained as I draw, with nothing skipped or sped up.
📄 Downloadable Reference PDF: Includes the original photo reference and a proportional sketch template to get you started.
📺 On-Demand Access: Watch anytime, rewatch as needed, and progress at your own pace.
This class is perfect for intermediate to advanced artists looking to add character, expression, and high realism to their portrait work. It’s the first lesson in my upcoming Funny Face Series—each one focused on expressive portraiture with a twist.
